About Me

Percussionist Matthew Enfinger is an avid collaborator specializing in mixed ensembles and chamber music. Interested in getting music out of the concert hall, Matthew has performed at many non-traditional venues, including the Tennessee State Museum, Vanderbilt Fine Art Gallery, Nashville's Adventure Science Center, and the Yellow Barn Music Festival's Music Haul, a one-of-a-kind driveable music stage designed to cultivate community through classical music.

Matthew regularly performs with mixed ensembles dedicated to the works of 21st century composers like Andy Akiho, Steve Reich, and Gabriella  Ortiz. Matthew has also been working with composer Joey Karz on a new duo for percussion titled "Diffusion," which explores how sound and motifs enter a space and change entirely what we hear. Matthew and Joey are also working on developing a new piece for snare drum and electronics.

Matthew is featured on several recording projects with the Vanderbilt Percussion Group, including the Vic Firth video of John Cage’s “Third Construction” in addition to recordings of works by notable composers such as Emma O’Halloran and Gemma Peacocke. Other recordings include “The Whimsical Nature of Small Particle Physics” by Ben Wahlund.

Recently, Matthew was hired on as faculty at the Tennessee Valley Music Festival, teaching private lessons and master classes to young musicians while performing as a soloist with the Tennessee Valley Wind Ensemble.

In addition to performing, Matthew works as the Development Intern for Community Concerts at Second, a non-profit in Baltimore, MD dedicated to sharing diverse music and artists to the Baltimore Community free of charge while paying artists at competitive rates. Matthew is also the External Opportunities Intern for Peabody's Launchpad.

Matthew earned his Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music under the tutelage of Ji Hye Jung and Lee Vinson. Currently Matthew is pursuing a Masters of Music Performance degree at Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory of Music studying with Robert van Sice, Ji Su Jung, Jeff Stern, Matt Keowen, and Eric Shin.
